Kony 2012, the video is already infamous itself. It has made Invisible Children more infamous than Kony. Thank heavens I can still find some words to say about this. Not with questions like, “Is Kony your new President?” “Do you have relatives that Kony has killed?” The pity-party is not only insulting but weirdly interesting. It is interesting because after Geldof, Bono, Angelina Jolie and other do-gooders spending valuable time to ‘save’ humanity in Africa, no one can see the results of this do-goodery. Or are there any tangible results? But because many will serve their do-good feelings by committing time, effort and resources to a campaign that will just destroy efforts on ground aiming at resolving the Northern Uganda question, however enough what has been said is, it is still not enough.
So, because I am unable to compact all that has been said into a reasonable blog-post, I recommend that you check out the views of Zimbabwean writer and my good friend Novuyo Rosa Tshuma on the issue. Just click here. I agree, point by point, paragraph by paragraph, sentence by sentence, word by word, letter by letter, with all that Novuyo says. Haven’t I already typed my fingers lame on the issue? Do-goodery should come of age too! It seems someone like Russel needs to be saved from his own ‘colonial mentality’! His White Man’s Burden should not trouble him too much.
But wait, isn’t the dude rich? A burden that brings him millions of dollars that he earns in salary for working for Invisible Children is a good burden? Who hates such a burden? Tell me if you do. All of us are probably hating on hos the man and his friends are reaping big from today’s fastest revenue earner, Suffering as a commodity. See, the whole approach is business like. Tell a few lies, like Uganda is in Central Africa — portray a picture that creates some emotional reaction that brings money to your table! This is business! The number of letters in the word ‘business’ and ‘humanity’ is the same. This will ‘change’ the world.

Another analogy of TWAIL scholar!!!!! I entirely disagree with you Brian on this matter and you seem burdened under the decades old arguments of TWAIL scholars and academic scholars. I have had the benefit of meeting a few people who have worked/interned with invisible children, the agenda is entirely different. Its not another policy prescription but an innovation to solve a problem which we have seen happen since I was a minor. So what ongoing efforts are you talking about in the blog? What have we done? We see these young brains come up with a new innovative ideas probably guided by feelings and emotions is this bad? The simple answer is NO, well they may have some misconceptions about the situation but its not “BULLSHIT” as you term it.
Sostine, Invisible Children’s accountability for donations says it all. And, do you mean to say that organizations like Refugee Law Project, The Acholi Religious Leaders Peace Initiative and many other actors that were essential in the peace efforts are invisible? And regarding the TWAIL tired rhetoric, third world from where? Who is the first world? What makes one first and another third?
And you are talking of your friends, ‘interns’ at Invisible Children, well, interns are at the lower lowest step in the ladder of decision making in the organization, not so? Who are the decision makers of Invisible Children? An organization calling for WAR (Military Intervention is war) is well-meaning? Huh! Give us another ‘savior’!
And in the meantime, the film-makers of Invisible Children use their campaigns to sell their movies — that is the different agenda you mean! That ideas that ended the war, the initiatives that led to the end of the war are nothing until business people come in to use the suffering to make money which they spend on themselves (only less than 30% gets to northern Uganda by the way)! Give me another RAP!
